Undergrads

Eber Martinez – Undergrad

I am a new undergraduate student in the Luger lab. I am excited to study the biochemical mechanism involving PARP1, considered to be a promising molecular target for anti-tumor drug design. My goal is to get a PhD in organic chemistry focusing on drug design and development. When I am not in the lab, I enjoy spending time with my dog and being active outdoors.

Eliot Hunsberger -Undergrad

My name is Eliot and I’m very excited to be working in the Luger lab this semester! I am majoring in biochemistry and I am particularly interested in studying methods of epigenetic regulation. I am also minoring in French, and in my free time I enjoy picnicking, doing anything outside, going to concerts, and rollerblading.

Nikhil Gupta – Undergrad

I am a third year undergraduate studying molecular biology, biochemistry, and computational biology. My research involves determining the structure of non-eukaryotic DNA organizing proteins. Outside of the lab, I play a lot of Rocket League and train in Brazilian Jiu jitsu.

Sophie Kvaratskhelia – Undergrad

I’m a third year undergrad student majoring in Environmental Studies and Molecular Biology with a minor in Spanish. I’m stoked to be a part of the Luger lab, where I study histones and histone-like proteins in non-eukaryotic organisms. Outside of the lab, I love reading, dancing, hiking, and just being in nature!

Damian Sonsino – Undergrad

I am an undergraduate student double majoring in Biochemistry and Classics, with a minor in Hebrew & Israel Studies. I am interested in researching mitochondrial DNA organization in the lab. I enjoy learning new things, inside and outside of the lab and classroom, and in my free time I like to run, to watch and play basketball, and make music.

Grace O’MearaUndergrad

I am a third year undergraduate student studying biochemistry on the pre-pharmacy track. I am interested in drug development and possibly going into clinical work related to pharmaceuticals. Currently, I am testing different PARP1 inhibitors in the lab. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, cooking, and fitness.

Asher Ferreira – Undergrad

I’m honored to work in the Luger Lab and contribute to archaeal histone structure research. I am interested in helping discover how the first eukaryotic nucleus evolved and fighting autoimmune diseases like Type 1 Diabetes. I am pursuing a major in biochemistry and intend on learning Quechua as well as mastering Spanish during my undergraduate years at CU. On weekdays you can find me teaching climbing classes at The Spot and on weekends hiking in the Front Range.

Thomas Stilley – Undergrad

I am a second year student studying biochemistry and molecular biology. In the future, I would like to attend graduate school for biochemistry. My work in the lab involves studying and developing assays for PARP inhibitors. In my free time, I love watching the Nuggets, working out, playing video games, and fly fishing
